CRT Production History 1960’s

In 1964, Frank W. Ballard introduced the first courses in puppetry at UConn. His early puppet productions such as The Mikado (1968), took place in the Jorgensen Theatre and became hallmarks of CRT’s experimental side. Puppetry’s integration with main-stage productions broadened the theatre’s creative palette and lifted UConn’s arts program onto a national stage.

CRT also experimented with workshop-based stagings, particularly during the summer, which offered deeper creative exploration, for instance, staging A Streetcar Named Desire in a workshop format.
