CRT Production History 1949 & 1950’s

The era of the 1950s was the boom of the “Nationwide Theatre”- a combined endeavor of community and university theaters. During this period, many colleges and universities established their own department of speech and drama, and along with it, a performing arm to train student artists. The Connecticut Repertory Theatre debuted its first season in 1949 with four main stage plays — Saint Joan, Raisin’ Cane, Arsenic and Old Lace, and John Loves Mary — and has continued to produce exceptional productions and artists since then.
